New Review of “Trickle on Down” Appears Online

The online music site Jamsphere.com did a review of my CD.  Here it is:

Dada Veda: “Trickle On Down” – music that belongs to the world!

Originally from New York, Dada Veda is a meditation and yoga teacher, as well as a singer-songwriter. Although Dada has been playing the guitar and singing for the past 40 years, it was only in the past ten years that he tried his hand at composing his own songs, and completing four albums. Here Dada explains the concept of his fourth album “Trickle On Down” (released in 2016), in the liner notes, “My main job in life is teaching meditation and yoga, but my musical activities are an important extension of this work.” He adds, “In these short songs I have tried to infuse the eternal truths that are at the core of who we are as individuals and as a society.”

There is no question in my mind about the rating of this album if I could go above 5 stars I would. Each track I find takes you someplace you want to go, may have been or really should be in your life. Dada Veda is one of the rare artists that seem to be able to really paint a picture in your mind. Busy Spring and a Busy Summer Coming Up!

I recently received shipment of a new CD and a new book. The new CD is “Trickle on Down” and is a World Music album. The title track is done in a reggae style and addresses the issue of economic inequality.  In the same vein we have re-recorded my song “Waiting for that Time” which expresses my desire to see a world where there is social justice everywhere.  The other songs on the CD have spiritual themes. You can listen to the tracks on my music page

I also was happy to get copies of my new book The Wisdom of Tantra.  This is a new and revised edition of The Wisdom of Yoga and it is a simple guide to all of the topics of Ananda Marga yoga philosophy.

The book and the CD were the works of spring (and I didn’t even mention my trip to India!), now the summer is awaiting.

From June 26-July 1 I will attend the Path of Bliss Summer Retreat in Round Top, NY . I will perform songs at the retreat’s cultural program.  Later in July, July 1-23, I will participate in the Prout Convention in Vig, Denmark.  I will also perform there

Do We Really Need Philanthropy?

The recent announcement that Mark Zuckerberg, the Facebook founder, and his wife Priscilla Chan would be “giving away” their fortune to charity has become the subject of some controversy. It turns out that the new charitable entity that Zuckerberg and Chan have set up is actually a for-profit company and several critics have said that what is really happening is that this rich couple is just trying to evade taxes and then be able to decide which charitable causes to support. For me the controversy is actually deeper than about one couple deciding what to do with their vast fortune. What we should really be asking is why do we need philanthropy in the first place? The Best is Yet to Come!

In January I published my memoir, From Brooklyn to Benares and Back, and wrote about my experiences in the 1960s when I first came in contact with Eastern spirituality. I also wrote about the social upheavals of that colorful era.

One friend who read the book remarked “I wished I was born earlier so I, too, could experience what Dada describes.” A few other people said the same thing. While they may wish to have been born earlier, I feel that this younger generation is more fortunate than me. Continue reading

The Role of the Artist in Society

Last night I gave a short speech at the RAWA (Renaissance Artists and Writers Association)  Concert in Kolkata.  The program was held in a packed auditorium at Science City. I spoke about RAWA, and its aim of liberating artists  from the fetters of political repression and from the domination of commercial interests.  I also explained the significance of  Prabhat Samgiita, the collection of 5018 spiritual songs composed by my guru, Shrii Shrii Anandamurti. Here are some photos (taken by Svapan De) of the event:
